Moving Company in NJ

Tips for first time movers

At Gibraltar Van Lines we want you to to make an educated decision when it comes to selecting a moving company in NJ. Say you're moving for the first time, you've bound to have lots of questions and excitement about moving, but you may not know where to start. Today we want to go over things you should keep in mind when moving.

Browse online or ask referrals
It is common to once browse online and look for reviews and check ratings before choosing a moving company. You can also ask around from the people you know, probably the ones who have just moved and had hired a company recently. On Google we have many wonderful reviews, several of which go into detail about specific things our past customers like about our services.

Moving inventory

A good moving company takes note of all your stuff to determine the bulk and weight of your possessions to estimate what it will cost you. The estimator should check all of your storage places such as cupboards, drawers, garages and bookcases. A large component of the mover’s price is based on the weight of your stuff and the space your goods take up in the truck. Take this part seriously and cross check properly if the estimate is accurate.

Ask and answer questions
When you are moving, you might not intend to take all of your stuff. So when the estimator is performing a quick go through, do tell them what you want to and don’t want to move. However an estimator from us at Gibraltar Van Lines will ask you these questions so be sure to be prepared well to tell them about which of your things you want to or not want to take with you. Don’t forcefully take the items you don’t need with you. You can leave them, sell them or give them away as charity. Only take what you really need, it will save you the cost and trouble of moving.

Don’t settle for down payments
Unless it’s a really heavy job and you have a lot of stuff that has to be moved you don’t have to pay anything in advance. Always pay when the delivery is done. Paying in advance usually delays the work for you and leads to waste of time.

Moving Contracts
There are three kinds of moving contracts:

A non-binding estimate on your contract means the company cannot require payment more than 10% above the original estimate. Any overages must be paid within 30 days of delivery.

A non-binding to exceed estimate on your contract ensures that you will not have to pay for any overages to the original estimate. The estimate is the maximum you’ll be required to pay for any services rendered.

A binding estimate on your contract is supposed to be a guaranteed price for the move and all extras and services. If you request for any additional services (such as unpacking), any extra fees must be paid within 30 days of delivery.

Packing options
We respect your decision to pack yourself if that's what you choose, but we also would like you to know that you have the option of having our skilled moving professionals handle the packing for you. They go the extra mile to put padding on your fragile items and wrap your furniture. Our movers and packers can also help unpack at your new location, saving you lots of trouble.

Packing materials, if you choose to do it yourself, are free when you move with us!
